More
than $20,000 raised at library event
AURORA – The Aurora Public Library Foundation’s annual
fundraising reception and auction, held on Oct. 28 at
the Eola Road Branch Library, netted $20,500 that will
benefit the children’s areas of the new Main Aurora
Public Library as well as the branch libraries.
The event, chaired by Brigit Reuland and Judy Dawson,
had a magical theme and featured a strolling magician
who presented a guillotine act. Guest auctioneers for
the evening were Arlene Hawks, Sherman Jenkins, Scott
McCleary and James Rydland. Honorary chairs were Neal
and Mary Clark Ormond. On display were posters and other
magical affects from the collection of the late David
Alexander.
Also displayed around the library were posters showing
conceptual architectural plans and landscape design
ideas for the new Main Library, as well as posters of
the winning essays of three Aurora Public Library
patrons who shared how the library has enriched their
lives.
Proceeds will benefit the children’s area of the new
Main Library, to be located at the corner of River and
Benton streets in downtown Aurora, as well as the
children’s areas of the Eola Road and West branches. As
an example of the kinds of things that could be
purchased for the children’s areas, the library
displayed a book bench and giant “eraser” manufactured
by Big Cozy Books.
